I’m excited to be publishing my very first newsletter through Substack! Though I’ve already been testing the waters of this platform through a couple of full-length posts and simple notes during July (make sure to check them out if you haven’t already), offering this specific entry feels like I’ve crossed a threshold and arrived at a whole new level of grounding and anchoring into the new.
The rhythm I am playing with for the time being looks like this:
1st Tuesdays: A standard newsletter that will include a reflection, a preview of the Monthly Message & Motivation, and any upcoming events (performances, healing experiences, workshops), plus new or special offerings.
3rd Tuesdays: More of a full-fledged writing/literary work, healing experience/transmission, or any mid-month announcements/reminders.
For those who are new to ONYI LOVE, feel free to visit our website, www.onyi.love, to learn about who we are and what we offer.
For those who are already familiar with me and my work—especially throughout the years—I am more than grateful for your companionship, support, and witnessing. Thank you for trusting yourselves to receive what I offer, and to use it however you may to move yourselves in the direction of your preference.
And if you’re new here, be sure to check out the first two writings I’ve shared on Substack—each includes ritual, reflection, and/or soulful guidance to support your path:
Some current reflections…
The word “audacity” has been playing with and around me as of late. While I have often observed and reflected on the spectrum of how it is (and has historically been) demonstrated across various stages of society, I was recently smacked in the face by it in a way that gave me a different level of pause. I won’t go into too much detail about what occurred and will just keep it simple: an attendee of a healing event I facilitated engaged in a way that was inappropriate and unprofessional during the session.
As it was happening in real-time, a series of reactions and responses (including surprise) spiraled through my mind and body. At one point, I became paranoid that my face was betraying the “What the f*ck?” and the avalanche of other mind activity that ensued. Though I remained calm and gracious, that look—a subtle one that family and close friends recognize as a sign that my wheels are spinning or something is not kosher—definitely made a cameo on my face for a moment.
After moving through the first layers of feelings and emotions, and in consulting with those close to me, I returned to the place of neutrality that I’ve proudly cultivated over years of doing ori work—one description from the Ifá system for deep self-work and beyond. From there, I considered how I could learn from that individual’s actions not just from the standpoint of That’s a choice not to make, but also from the place of If this person can be that audacious, what stops me from being so as well?
The illumination this experience was there to provide was on all past versions of me that stopped themselves from taking action due to some form of anxiety or fear—around failure, deservability, worthiness, etc. The blessing, which was disguised in a cloak of negativity that I was being guided to remove, was a level of permission to take action.
If I zoom outward and consider the decisions individuals and collectives are making on a national and global scale, I am astonished—and angered—by audacity at what I find to be atrocious levels. And spirit is saying:
See the degree people feel entitled to take these actions from their greed, belief in disconnection, and false sense of power? Why do you stop yourself from taking the actions you prefer—actions you know are coming from joy, integrity, and peace?
I often hear the lament-tinged questions and musings around what individuals can do to support this cause, denounce that situation, or speak out about this experience as we witness it all in real time in unprecedented ways. For some, that looks like conventional protest, strikes, or boycotts. For others, it looks like ongoing posts on social media. For some, it means physically going to specific locations (home and beyond) where any form of negation and trauma is being enacted upon people and place. For some, it includes prayer, ritual, and other forms of spiritual and creative work.
For those who don’t know what to do, I encourage you to consider how you can use the reflection of others taking audacious and destructive action—strip away the negativity and channel the energy into courageous, aligned action. It’s not about what happens, but what we do with what happens that matters, as my teacher Bashar (channeled by Darryl Anka) says. And a powerful way to transform the energies of these times is to flip it, alchemize it, and elevate it. That is how we change ourselves and shift to versions of Earth that are more aligned with who we say we prefer to be.
